-From the beginnings of Thomas Barnardo’s work in 1867 to the present day, learn all you need to know about Barnardo’s!

-Who is Barnardo's target audience?

Barnardo's has an incredibly diverse range of target groups both within and outside the organisation, e.g. staff, volunteers and donors. The primary target audience for our advertising campaign is everyone, particularly those groups of the general public who are most likely to donate to children’s charities.

-One of the main participation activities Hartbeat Participation Team coordinates for young people is Hartlepool Young Voices (HYV). HYV is a team of young people responsible for co-ordinating the views of all young people from across the town in order to influence and effect change and development through the inception of a participation strategy for the town.

LO.2 Tuesday 23rd November♥

Today In art with Miss Pinnington, we started to make our shoe, we used template molds to wrap cling film around them, then we had the choice whether to use paper mache, mod roc, clay or others, to start making the shoe shape. I used Mod roc and have now covered most of the mold with it then next lesson I'm able to slip the mold out of it and have the base of my shoe. I found this pretty easy to do, next lesson I've decided to build up more mod roc over to make the surface thicker and i will create my heel using clay, i have also decided that I'm not going to make a high-heeled hi-top because it will be too challenging for my stage of work, so I'm just going to create a high heeled shoe with lots of colour, possible gems&jewellery to represent 'Hemstocks' the shop we are going to display our shoe in. I think i'm doing well in art so far, i dont seem to be struggling with anything & we have just handed in our sketch books which contain mostly all the work we have done so far, includes all our sketches, planning&research.
Miss Pinnington has marked some of my work already and i would say most of the comments are possitive but a few things i need to improve on.

For campaign I have also created a poster for Staff&Children in the school to encourage them to donate any clothes, items, toys to our group in the drama studio on Tuesday lunchtimes,we have decided to use the lunchtimes on tuesdays to collect donations because its the day we spend here in wymondham high&it will be easy to collect them from there and easy for everyone else to acess. We are going to put the posters around the school, and send any donations to the charity shop we are working with, but not forgetting to check for any possible rubbish or bad conditioned clothing.

Trip to Florida Shoe Factory♥

this Morning we went to Florida shoe factory in Norwich.
part 1 When we arrived a man gave us a tour around, first we went upstairs where a worker (who's job was to sketch shoes) gave a talk about his job and the first stages of making a shoe. He showed us a couple of books names 'Insight' they were image&material books containing many materials, notes, every page sort of had a certain theme or colour like a mood board of ideas.
He explained that they made sketches in a book, and the final one would be drawn up properly labelled, colored & the choice of materials as well. Next it would be given to the boss to see if he wanted any changes, if he liked it and whether they would continue in the making. If so, then he would draw the design up on a vax' which is basically a plastic template to go over the block template, which is like use of a mannequin.
Also a template sheet would be sent to China to check if all is correct, theme boards&colour boards will also be sent for a taste of the colors... But the colour boards apparently have to be separate for each colour.
(he also added when the shoe is created a model would come in and try it)
we asked how long the process of creating a shoe takes, and he said not long at all it just depends on when they get the information back from china & other places.

- 1000 pairs a week are sold in Van Dal.
- To make a shoe it only costs them £6/7.
- Van Dal shoes are sold for roughly £70-80 in the shop.

Materials
  • Suede
  • Metallic material
  • snake design
  • Lamb skin
  • New buck
  • Patent
  • leather which in a process turns like lizard skin affect.
  • Leopard skin.
Materials normally would cost £7+ and if you buy the materials from China you receive more basic types for example leather and then they would dye it a colour for you. However if you buy from Italy you can get designs like Donna Cabana and more creative materials.

Part 2

Next a man showed us a room with a computer and a scanner thing, under the scanner was a shoe plastic template with lines, he then scanned it to the computer and the template came on the screen with a view of all the lines. He then sent it to the 'Cutting table' machine where a type of big white square paper was placed on top, part of the machine moved down over the paper and printed the templates onto the paper, the little part of the machine contained a pen&a knife so it easily cut out templates of the shoe and also printed a size on them. It stopped when the whole paper was filled with templates, The man got them all off and gave us one each to keep.
After hew sent the remaining to the 'Clicker' so he could use them to cut out pieces of material in the correct shapes/parts.
Women all used the sewing machines around him, and stitched all his bits of material together.
Next they were sent to different parts of the factory for work to be done on to the parts, a worker used glue to stick the sole on. Women burnt the fibres off the shoe, wiping & Cleaning & using a 'bottom ruffer' to finally make the shoes ready for presentation.

-90% of shoes came from India & China.
- Really high quality came from Italy.
- Pantone book' is the name for the colour book.
----------------------
-I liked the experience of visiting the Florida shoe factory because i found every part interesting and i didn't realise how much there really was to making a shoe. I enjoyed most of the stages just learning about what you do to make a shoe.

-When you make a shoe there is a lot of designing work to do before you continue to the making, you have to...
  • plan
  • choose materials
  • draw sketches & designs
  • Pick a main one.
  • Send template drawings to China.
  • make a plastic template
Then after the designing part follows the practical parts of machine work, cutting out, sticking... all that I've explained above ^

-The visit has helped me alot with the making of our group shoe because we now know all the stages to make one compared to how much time we actually have till completion, so most of my groups ideas will have to be put aside because they will be too extreme to make, as only a simple shoe will take a bit of difficulty... It has also given us some ideas of how we can make ours & what materials.

overall a good visit :D

LO.4 02/11/10♥

Today we had a lady called Jackie come in and talk to us about 'How to make a video journal'.
she had a power point to go through and show us everything you need to know, she also talked about all the jobs she's been involved in and i remember her saying she was one of the speakers of big brother. I took some notes of what she talked about...:)

-To make a video journal you need:
  • A digital camera or digital video camera
  • An idea
  • Creativity
  • A format
  • Good planning
-What does Producing mean?
  • good idea --> developing it (research)
  • Full of creative ideas/capacity to make ideas happen
  • see a clear angle, make sure its evident and accessible to the audience
  • a good narrative arc
  • responsible for scripting, format of film or programme
  • responsible for editing
  • responsible for paper work for production, health&safety, risk assessment, consent forms.
  • able to forward think see issues before they rise
  • good understanding of media law, compliance, ethics, balance and a general sound editional judgement
  • responsible for sticking to the budget  for the programme/film
She also showed us a few T.V programmes where they represented different ways of filming , camera angles, we watched snipits of the peep show and a progrmme about a man who set off to survive in the jungle on standard living supplies and he was his own camera man so it was quite interesting to watch, heres some more notes...

The Peep Show:
  • Comedy
  • see through their eyes
  • camera becomes the person
  • less editing to do
What should an interview be:
  • challenging
  • revealing
  • evocative
  • provocative
  • emotional
  • engaging
Off camera = Just voices
On camera = Filming them

At the end we also got into small groups and filmed our own little interviews about for example interviewing a contestant who didnt won but came second, and the interview shows the contestant answering the questiohns from a person off camera. We will download the videos soon.

This workshop helped me to learn about video journals and i learnt a lot of interesting points i may be able to use for my play or just in general to be prepared for up comming projects.
I found the whole talk interesting, she didnt really make it boring, there is alot i didnt know before about video journals.

How i'm doing so far...♥

I think I'm doing alright, i am a little behind on keeping my blog up to date but apart from that all the work from artefact and campaign is almost completed. I think the campaign is slightly more challenging than the artefact because we are soon to be performing in front of some year 2's which i haven't done before but it should go well. Me, Holly&Ellie are working on our shoe, we have gathered lots of ideas and completed our mind maps & mood boards. We are going to draw a final design for our shoe then we should be well on our way to start making!:)

Campaign♥

I don't mind the campaign side, i think its good that we're in groups working together on this as it makes me more confident in a group than on my own, I'm finding it slightly more challenging than the artefact because we are expected to have our performances done and dusted soon, which they should be because I've done quite a lot of practicing and planning, although i do like the drama side of it because it allows us to have space from others and work individually or as a group, and have the freedom to do it ourselves as long as we get the work done.
i have completed basically all the work set,we had two main pieces of homework which are the story board and the live review, the story board was to show our performance in its stages and to write a little of whats going on so it shows we're organised but also so the teacher knows what we are doing. Also we had to complete a live review of a performance we watched a few weeks ago, which was performed by a drama group and gave across a good message about everyday life and being grateful for what you have, it was quite moving and has also0 given me some ideas of how to get our performance the same. I have also been working on my groups leaflets&posters for the red cross, making them better and making sure they will be successful.

Artefact♥

I'm liking working on the Artefact side, i find the work interesting, fairly straight forward and easy to get on with. I have almost completed everything i have been expected to do, and im trying to keep organised. But i do think we need more time to complete all the work thats set because it can get hard to keep on top of.
