Shoe pictures.

Here are some pictures on the work i have been doing to my shoe, i used a template of a shoe and over cling film spread some mod roc around it, i left a gap in the centre of the shoe template so after its dried i can remove the two parts of the shoe, then work on getting it back together. After that i put both parts together forming mod rock around it till it was the full shape of a shoe, then i began working on my heel. For the heel i decided to use clay and get two strips &tangle them together to get a twisted affect because i thought it was different and it looks nice. :)

LO.3 Letter♥

Wymondham High School
Folly Road
Wymondham
Norfolk

Tuesday 7th December 2010

On Tuesday 30th of November we all went to Browick infant school to send a message across to donate to charity and its importance, but also to do workshops with the year 2 students and show our performances. Both performances included donating in some way, for example the first showed a woman donating to charity, then from that help, a boy was saved. Then the other one shows us a boy with lots of old toys which he doesn’t play with anymore decide to instead of throwing them in the rubbish, actually donate them to a charity shop where boys &girls can use them for fun. This is a good example for them to follow.
Another activity we did with the kids was a workshop in small groups, the year 10’s took an amount of kids and taught them in fun ways to share and to teach them of the importance of charity in a way they will remember.
Unfortunately we did not receive any donations, but we will continue to advertise, spread the message around. We would have thought this might have been as result to being almost Christmas, and families don’t have the time to search thought their belongings, but we are hoping after Christmas, when all the children get their new clothes and toys that we should get some donations in!

From what i've heard the visit wasnt overlly sucessfull due to absences & that the children didnt donate anything. But was sucessfull in passing the message and i hope they learnt something from it.

LO.2 Tuesday 23rd November♥

Today In art with Miss Pinnington, we started to make our shoe, we used template molds to wrap cling film around them, then we had the choice whether to use paper mache, mod roc, clay or others, to start making the shoe shape. I used Mod roc and have now covered most of the mold with it then next lesson I'm able to slip the mold out of it and have the base of my shoe. I found this pretty easy to do, next lesson I've decided to build up more mod roc over to make the surface thicker and i will create my heel using clay, i have also decided that I'm not going to make a high-heeled hi-top because it will be too challenging for my stage of work, so I'm just going to create a high heeled shoe with lots of colour, possible gems&jewellery to represent 'Hemstocks' the shop we are going to display our shoe in. I think i'm doing well in art so far, i dont seem to be struggling with anything & we have just handed in our sketch books which contain mostly all the work we have done so far, includes all our sketches, planning&research.
Miss Pinnington has marked some of my work already and i would say most of the comments are possitive but a few things i need to improve on.

For campaign I have also created a poster for Staff&Children in the school to encourage them to donate any clothes, items, toys to our group in the drama studio on Tuesday lunchtimes,we have decided to use the lunchtimes on tuesdays to collect donations because its the day we spend here in wymondham high&it will be easy to collect them from there and easy for everyone else to acess. We are going to put the posters around the school, and send any donations to the charity shop we are working with, but not forgetting to check for any possible rubbish or bad conditioned clothing.

Trip to Florida Shoe Factory♥

this Morning we went to Florida shoe factory in Norwich.
part 1 When we arrived a man gave us a tour around, first we went upstairs where a worker (who's job was to sketch shoes) gave a talk about his job and the first stages of making a shoe. He showed us a couple of books names 'Insight' they were image&material books containing many materials, notes, every page sort of had a certain theme or colour like a mood board of ideas.
He explained that they made sketches in a book, and the final one would be drawn up properly labelled, colored & the choice of materials as well. Next it would be given to the boss to see if he wanted any changes, if he liked it and whether they would continue in the making. If so, then he would draw the design up on a vax' which is basically a plastic template to go over the block template, which is like use of a mannequin.
Also a template sheet would be sent to China to check if all is correct, theme boards&colour boards will also be sent for a taste of the colors... But the colour boards apparently have to be separate for each colour.
(he also added when the shoe is created a model would come in and try it)
we asked how long the process of creating a shoe takes, and he said not long at all it just depends on when they get the information back from china & other places.

- 1000 pairs a week are sold in Van Dal.
- To make a shoe it only costs them £6/7.
- Van Dal shoes are sold for roughly £70-80 in the shop.

Materials
  • Suede
  • Metallic material
  • snake design
  • Lamb skin
  • New buck
  • Patent
  • leather which in a process turns like lizard skin affect.
  • Leopard skin.
Materials normally would cost £7+ and if you buy the materials from China you receive more basic types for example leather and then they would dye it a colour for you. However if you buy from Italy you can get designs like Donna Cabana and more creative materials.

Part 2

Next a man showed us a room with a computer and a scanner thing, under the scanner was a shoe plastic template with lines, he then scanned it to the computer and the template came on the screen with a view of all the lines. He then sent it to the 'Cutting table' machine where a type of big white square paper was placed on top, part of the machine moved down over the paper and printed the templates onto the paper, the little part of the machine contained a pen&a knife so it easily cut out templates of the shoe and also printed a size on them. It stopped when the whole paper was filled with templates, The man got them all off and gave us one each to keep.
After hew sent the remaining to the 'Clicker' so he could use them to cut out pieces of material in the correct shapes/parts.
Women all used the sewing machines around him, and stitched all his bits of material together.
Next they were sent to different parts of the factory for work to be done on to the parts, a worker used glue to stick the sole on. Women burnt the fibres off the shoe, wiping & Cleaning & using a 'bottom ruffer' to finally make the shoes ready for presentation.

-90% of shoes came from India & China.
- Really high quality came from Italy.
- Pantone book' is the name for the colour book.
----------------------
-I liked the experience of visiting the Florida shoe factory because i found every part interesting and i didn't realise how much there really was to making a shoe. I enjoyed most of the stages just learning about what you do to make a shoe.

-When you make a shoe there is a lot of designing work to do before you continue to the making, you have to...
  • plan
  • choose materials
  • draw sketches & designs
  • Pick a main one.
  • Send template drawings to China.
  • make a plastic template
Then after the designing part follows the practical parts of machine work, cutting out, sticking... all that I've explained above ^

-The visit has helped me alot with the making of our group shoe because we now know all the stages to make one compared to how much time we actually have till completion, so most of my groups ideas will have to be put aside because they will be too extreme to make, as only a simple shoe will take a bit of difficulty... It has also given us some ideas of how we can make ours & what materials.

overall a good visit :D

LO.4 02/11/10♥

Today we had a lady called Jackie come in and talk to us about 'How to make a video journal'.
she had a power point to go through and show us everything you need to know, she also talked about all the jobs she's been involved in and i remember her saying she was one of the speakers of big brother. I took some notes of what she talked about...:)

-To make a video journal you need:
  • A digital camera or digital video camera
  • An idea
  • Creativity
  • A format
  • Good planning
-What does Producing mean?
  • good idea --> developing it (research)
  • Full of creative ideas/capacity to make ideas happen
  • see a clear angle, make sure its evident and accessible to the audience
  • a good narrative arc
  • responsible for scripting, format of film or programme
  • responsible for editing
  • responsible for paper work for production, health&safety, risk assessment, consent forms.
  • able to forward think see issues before they rise
  • good understanding of media law, compliance, ethics, balance and a general sound editional judgement
  • responsible for sticking to the budget  for the programme/film
She also showed us a few T.V programmes where they represented different ways of filming , camera angles, we watched snipits of the peep show and a progrmme about a man who set off to survive in the jungle on standard living supplies and he was his own camera man so it was quite interesting to watch, heres some more notes...

The Peep Show:
  • Comedy
  • see through their eyes
  • camera becomes the person
  • less editing to do
What should an interview be:
  • challenging
  • revealing
  • evocative
  • provocative
  • emotional
  • engaging
Off camera = Just voices
On camera = Filming them

At the end we also got into small groups and filmed our own little interviews about for example interviewing a contestant who didnt won but came second, and the interview shows the contestant answering the questiohns from a person off camera. We will download the videos soon.

This workshop helped me to learn about video journals and i learnt a lot of interesting points i may be able to use for my play or just in general to be prepared for up comming projects.
I found the whole talk interesting, she didnt really make it boring, there is alot i didnt know before about video journals.

How i'm doing so far...♥

I think I'm doing alright, i am a little behind on keeping my blog up to date but apart from that all the work from artefact and campaign is almost completed. I think the campaign is slightly more challenging than the artefact because we are soon to be performing in front of some year 2's which i haven't done before but it should go well. Me, Holly&Ellie are working on our shoe, we have gathered lots of ideas and completed our mind maps & mood boards. We are going to draw a final design for our shoe then we should be well on our way to start making!:)

Campaign♥

I don't mind the campaign side, i think its good that we're in groups working together on this as it makes me more confident in a group than on my own, I'm finding it slightly more challenging than the artefact because we are expected to have our performances done and dusted soon, which they should be because I've done quite a lot of practicing and planning, although i do like the drama side of it because it allows us to have space from others and work individually or as a group, and have the freedom to do it ourselves as long as we get the work done.
i have completed basically all the work set,we had two main pieces of homework which are the story board and the live review, the story board was to show our performance in its stages and to write a little of whats going on so it shows we're organised but also so the teacher knows what we are doing. Also we had to complete a live review of a performance we watched a few weeks ago, which was performed by a drama group and gave across a good message about everyday life and being grateful for what you have, it was quite moving and has also0 given me some ideas of how to get our performance the same. I have also been working on my groups leaflets&posters for the red cross, making them better and making sure they will be successful.

Artefact♥

I'm liking working on the Artefact side, i find the work interesting, fairly straight forward and easy to get on with. I have almost completed everything i have been expected to do, and im trying to keep organised. But i do think we need more time to complete all the work thats set because it can get hard to keep on top of.

19/10/10♥

Today we have been starting to plan out our shoe, we did mind maps and gathered pictures off the internet to make a collage of pictures to give us ideas to choose from, we have decided to make a 'high heeled hi-top' which is bacically a mix betweena high heel and a hi-top (trainer). We decided to do this because its different and new, we havent yet decided exactly whats gonna go on it but we have got plenty of ideas for that yet.

Also today we have been working on our campaign work the 'British Red Cross' charity, to raise awareness we are going to be designing posters, leaflets, radio & T.V interviews/adverts. To promote this charity and also get people thinking about donating their clothes, we are going to hang the posters around the school which should catch our biggest target audience which are the kids, the posters should be bold&bright therefore eye catching for children. But we are also producing leaflets and radio&tv adverts which can be aimed for the audience of teenagers&adults. This is also going to pursuade them to think of buying from the store, if we get any donations we will make sure we check through the clothes so there is no rubbish that the charity shop will have to pay to get rid of. In drama we have began our short T.V play about the British Red Cross, we have got into groups of roughly 5 and in this group we have started to plan a tv advert that would be suitable to get the message across, bearing in mind the target audience we have aimed this at which will be children-teenagers mostly...it has to be clear&easy for them to understand otherwise they wont get the point of our play, the message we really want to send is to show them the importance of our charity 'The Red Cross' and what it does, why they should donate, how their donations are gonna help, and what they get out of doing it :)

Trip to Open♥

Last Tuesday we had a trip to Open in Norwich to learn about other people in the creative and media industry, when we got there we were led into a hall were we sat and watched groups of people take centre stage and talk about there jobs and how they got into them, where they went to school/college/university... and what their doing now. Each group had a different subject related to their jobs, these are the subjects we were talked to about... Performance, Dance, Animation and Design graphics. each person in the group took turn to stand up and give roughly a 10-15minute talk about themselves, most of the people had presentations to show as well. I found that the day was a bit long because they didn't involve us much apart from us asking them questions, it was all sit and listen no practical which would of made things more interesting. Some of the subjects wouldn't be for me so it did not grab my attention although a few of them i hadn't really heard much about before so listening to what its about made me take a bit of an interest in it that i didn't before i came.
However i did learn from these speech's and not all of them were for me but i was especially impressed by the performance one, i was interested in everything they said, it gave me some tips for my future, and also ideas of what routes to take options i could do.
So i guess overall it was a successful trip :).

Campaign visit.♥

A few weeks ago i contacted the 'Red Cross Charity shop' to see if it was possible to arrange a visit soon to ask some questions for our project and to just look around to take pictures&get information...we had to make sure we spoke clearly on the phone and explain who we are and why we want to visit, the workers told us it was fine to visit in 2 weeks time...i was first of all nervous because i haven't done anything like this before, but after i got going it turned out fine as the worker was very pleasant :)

today me Holly & Ellie visited the Red Cross charity shop we went in and asked if we could maybe take some pictures and do an interview, the manager agreed and took us to an upstairs office where we sat round a table and he passed us some leaflets which will be useful for us to have. Next we started the interview (which we have filmed and have all the questions provided on that film) and we told him about all the things we would offer to help like getting people in our local schools to donate clothing or areas in which he needs items like toys, games etc... He thought it would be a good idea, then we also talked about sorting through the clothing so all the items we bring will be in good condition to sell, and that we would be putting on a fashion show just to prove how good the clothes are and to maybe help the charity into selling these. Lastly we just asked him some questions about the shop and what red cross does, i learnt that in every emergency the red cross always sends down an extra van which provides clothes and blankets which i thought was quite interesting. It was another successful visit.

Artefact visit♥

Today we visited Hemstocks jewellers in Wyndoham and in a group we did an interview with the workers there, i filmed the interview with the camcorder, whilst the others in my group asked the questions, we asked What age group the shop is for?, What sort of things they sell?, When did Hemstocks start?, Who they get there jewellery off?...questions like that. We alsdo took some pictures of the shop which would be usefull to add to our blogs. One thing we forgot to ask was about the shoe we will be designing to be on display in the shop. Although the workers in the shop were quite busy. overall it was a successful visit.

CJ♥

Throughout the process of planning and conducting my campaign i must reguarly monitor my progress and examine my achievements and aims.
I must constantly ask myself if i am achieving what i set out to achieve and if not, why not - and then i should ask what i need to do to get nearer to achieving my intentions.
I must actively use my reflections to inform, shape or modify my work as i think appropriate.
When the campaign is over i should also include an investigation into the effectness of my campaign. this could be carried out by gathering feedback from my target audience using methods such as questionnaires or focus groups.

I will need to examine where i succeed and where i do not succeed, i need to consider areas for improvement and after intentions or plans where necessary in order to achieve my aims.

Learning Objective 4♥

Throughout the process of planning and creating my Artefact i must reguarly moniter my own activity and examine my achievements and aims.

I must constantly ask myself if i am achieving what i set out to achieve, and if not, why not - and then i should ask what i need to do to get nearer to creating what i intend to create.

I must actively use my reflections to inform, shape or modify my work as i think appropriate.

I will need to:
  • examine where i succeed and where i do not succeed
  • consider areas for improvement
  • alter intentions or plans where necessary in order to achieve my aims.
At the end of the process i should think about what i have learnt, and how i can put this learning to good use in my next project.

phone call...♥

I have just made a phone call to Hemstocks's jewellers in Wymondham, to ask for permission to visit there shop next Tuesday for half an hour. We will go in small groups and find out about the shop's history&business, and also take some pictures for our artifact unit. Before we made the phone call i was kinda nervous about what to say, but once the conversation was going i felt quite comfortable talking confidently and i actually wouldn't mind doing it again.

Converse♥

We are researching converse, there are lots of different styles of converses, they are very nice and lots of people have them. The shoes weren't very popular until basketball player Chuck Taylor decided they were his favourite shoes. He was impressed with the shoes design so he became there leading salesman. After making a few changes to the shoes, the shoes got it's name and Chuck Taylor's signature on the all star sign.
converses were worn by the entire athletics team in the movie Grease. When Converse was bought by Nike in 2003 and operations were moved from the United States to overseas, the design saw a few alterations. The fabric for a short time was no longer 2-ply cotton canvas but 1-ply textile and many wearers noticed different patterns of wear.Because of these complaints the shoe was once again produced with the twin layer canvas design starting sometime in the past 5 years. This change caused about a £2.7 increase in the shoe across the brand from about £21.6 to £24.4 respectively. On the converse website you can create your own converses this shows that converse has become very popular. Loads of celebs wear converses like Zac Efron, Daniel Craig, Jedward, Paris Hilton, Chris Brown and many more!

Campaign♥

We have just watched the videos on YouTube called 'Mary Queen Of Charity Shops'. It shows you Mary Portas going into a charity shop and finding out what things they can sell and what things they have to chuck away. They are able to sell 25% of donations they get so that's 2 out 10 items they can sell. Mary changed the unorganised, filthy charity shop into an improved and cleaner charity shop which will sell more items and raise more money.
This can tell us that for a charity shop to work&be sucessfull, it needs to be organised, clean, and all the donations have to be in good condition so people will want to buy them. It also showed us how poorly conditioned items that actually get dontated are, and has given us all a boost to check through our items before we send them off.

Homework 1- Artefact,Campaign&Performance♥

This year we are going to be studying Artefact,Campaign&Performance.
I understand that Artefact is when people make things for reasons from just being useful, expressing ideas, or just take an enjoyment in looking at them. This year we will be working towards making an artefact of our own. Campaign refers to the practice of using creative and media techniques and products to promotes ideas and raises awearness. And finally i understand a performance can involve a single performer or a group, can also involve activitys such as, acting, dancing, singing, stand up comedy or circus skills.
